Love Catcher S2 E7: Love lines strengthen

Before you get into episode 3, remember to read about episode 1 here and episode 2 here and episode 3 here and episode 4 here and episode 5 here and episode 6 here!

Everyone looks like they’ve had a rough night. Just to recap, they had to send two roommates home the night before. But can someone tell me why Chan Woo has to wear a suit to breakfast?

Today’s mission has given an upper hand to the girls: they have to pick two guys they want to go on a date with. The flipside is that the guys pick one person from their list. It seems like Sae Ra is pretty set. She only has her eyes on Jung Jin (and vice versa).

The girls choose as follows (along with who the guys picked):

  • Sae Ra: Jung Jin and Chan Woo
  • So Young: In Ook and Yeon Woo
  • Yeon Seo: In Ook and Yeon Woo
  • Ga Bin: In Ook and Chan Woo

This episode gives you the feels by starting off with Jung Jin and Sae Ra first. They’re definitely googly eyes for each other. They both reveal that the first couples challenge was a big push for them to get closer to each other, which they both like and are appreciative of. Jung Jin reveals that he has fallen for Sae Ra, and of course Sae Ra is worried. He’s told her before that he falls in love easily and stammers to let her know that she’s different.

Maximum Resolution

Yeon Woo and So Young’s date gives you the feels too. A romantic date in a hot air balloon? Heck, I’m afraid of heights but I could totally fall for a stranger there.

When they start to eat dinner at the seafood restaurant, Yeon Woo directly tells So Young that she is his type.

Maximum Resolution

I totally didn’t give In Ook the credit but the way he treats and respects Ga Bin is commendable. He’s sweet with her and starts to open up to her more about his feelings.

What caught my attention is how he said he was happy in that moment with Ga Bin – and trust me, you definitely looked it! They go over their dating styles and how they are like when they are in a relationship. And to be honest, they have a lot in common. Things looked really good between those two

…until Chan Woo shows up for part two. On a side note, Ga Bin’s red handbag was too cute so I found some similar ones here: one and two.

If In Ook’s date was a classy cute restaurant one, Chan Woo’s was casual and chill at the pub. They drink, smirk at each other, smile. Chan Woo confesses some more that his heart is all for Ga Bin, and asks her out for a second date when the show is over.

At this point, I know I was preferring Chan Woo over In Ook but I really think it’s personal preference on what vibe you want. They are just two different people with two different vibes.

When they get home, well that is a different vibe in the house. The two guys (In Ook and Chan Woo) meet after their awkward meeting before. They sit around this marble coffee table (which I have at home!) and talk about their dates – which I don’t know if this is the smartest thing in the world. The guys go at it with snarky questions and comments. Chan Woo says “I heard the food at the restaurant was good.”

The shocking twist comes at the end of the episode like always. The members voted on whose identity are the most curious to see. It ended up being In Ook – who happened to be Love Catcher!

If Ga Bin had a headache before, she definitely has a 10/10 migraine at this point. She thought In Ook was Money all along. Who will she pick?

The epilogue for this episode grabs at the heartstrings a lot. In Ook asks Ga Bin to talk and she lets him know it’s hard. He’s nothing but sweet and gives her her time and space.

Love Catcher S2 E6: The most suspicious get eliminated

Before you get into episode 3, remember to read about episode 1 here and episode 2 here and episode 3 here and episode 4 here and episode 5 here!

It’s been a long time coming and definitely overdue but here are the recaps and my thoughts of the last three episodes of this nail-biting reality show!

We ended the last episode with Chan Woo trying to secretly ask Ga Bin on a date in front of everyone but she didn’t buy it. And we start this episode with Yeon Woo doing Min Suk’s hair as they get ready for the last couple’s challenge: doll making.

So Young is finally coupled with In Ook. She has been eyeing him since the first meeting and is definitely excited about the date!

Young Seo and Chan Woo have a heart-to-heart on the car ride to their date. Yeong Seo worries that she didn’t express herself enough and Chan Woo worries that the person he likes is slowly pushing themselves away.

Maximum Resolution

When everyone arrives at the cafe, the first scene is finger curling. So Young acts super cute in front of In Ook – her voice changes, her tone is super high and her skinship is too the extreme. Ok girl, let’s tone this down a notch.

But I give it to her. She knows time is running low and she wants to let In Ook know that she is interested. She is also very straightforward: she asks which date he liked the most so far, and even points out Ga Bin out. This may have backfired a bit though.

Overall, Chan Woo has an upper hand in this challenge as he is tailor in real life (spoiler alert: he wins). He goes to work on this doll’s clothes and I’m over here like, the button on my coat is falling off, I’ll fix it next winter. We get a little bit of a backstory with how he became a tailor. He was actually a model for the company he is working for now first before becoming a tailor for the same company.

When So Young and In Ook get back in the car to go back home, they have another serious discussion about where their hearts are going. So Young said she has been focused on one person (yes, you In Ook) but that person has been focused on another person (Ga Bin got pulled into this unwillingly). In Ook’s answer isn’t great – he says “You never know,” which if I had a crush on someone would make me more anxious.

Maximum Resolution

Side note: I know So Young was on the verge of tears listening to In Ook but that angle has her highlight on point!

As Young Seo and Chan Woo won the challenge, they both choose to see who voted for them the night before. Sadly for Yeong Seo, no one voted for her, but for Chan Woo, do I need to say more?

The mode gets dark real fast because the time has come to vote for who everyone thinks is the Money Catcher in the house. The one girl and one guy who get the most votes will leave the house. In the end, it ends up being Chae Rang and Min Suk. THE TWO LOVE CATCHERS!

I think how their identities are revealed to the other members are so dramatic. C’mon Mnet, let them have a proper goodbye! But at the end of the reveal, all the other members are in full regret mode and are even more confused then ever. Cue the tears.

On to the next episode!

Love Catcher S2 E5: Knocking on the wrong door

Before you get into episode 3, remember to read about episode 1 here and episode 2 here and episode 3 here and episode 4 here!

So to recap from last episode, the love triangle is now a love square with Ga Bin in the middle, Chae Rang is being oddly sneaky, and Jung Jin and Sae Ra are still hinting at their interest in each other.

The episode starts off with tension between Yeon Woo and In Ook. Now if you remember Yeon Woo went on a date with Ga Bin the day before. But if I’m going to be honest here, the celebrity cast was only focused on how Yeon Woo was shirtless (again).

Then it quickly jumps to the kitchen where there are hearts flying around Jung Jin and Sae Ra. As the only ones awake, they cook breakfast together – feeding each other, staring at each other. These two are a definite couple, whether money or love.

There’s another palpable tension in the girls’ room. Chae Rang, going into the secret room the day before, now knows that In Ook (the guy she is interested in) picked Ga Bin. Site note, as much as Chae Rang isn’t my favorite, I think her fashion and makeup style is very cute. I saw her using an eye shadow palette similar to these: here and here2!

Ga Bin then goes into the kitchen, only to find Chan Woo sitting on the couch not looking the best – he’s actually sick. He says “hi” when she comes in, and she smirks in his direction – unsure if he saw this. But what I am sure he saw is how Yeon Woo and Ga Bin start talking, go into the dining room together, and sit next to each other. C’mon guys, give him a break!

So if I could highlight a moment from this episode, not only is this guy super sick but when he goes to the dining table and sees another love connection forming, he proclaims to the whole group that he will be a good partner/team with someone if that other person is willing to be too. When he says this, the WHOLE TABLE looks at Ga Bin. The way that Chan Woo looked at her here is the most real. And if you don’t know this guy likes Ga Bin, you live under a rock.

The date for this episode is a garden party. First, I would hire Yeon Woo as my hairdresser. This guy looks great and goes to do Min Seok’s hair too- why doesn’t he do this hairstyle more often? When you zoom in closely, you can see he uses the Unix hairdryer.

In the cars on the way to their date, Jung Jin reveals that all the guys think that Chae Rang is a Money Catcher. Hm, foreshadowing?

Their date and challenge is a cooking class led by a famous chef, Kim So Bong. Inside their surprise box is a live squid. If you have a fear of tentacles or hate the killing of seafood, do NOT watch this part. And as the only ones who have cooked live squid before, the day quickly becomes In Ook versus Chan Woo.

A couple things to note in this cooking challenge:

  1. In Ook is sweet to Chae Rang and dare I say, even flirts with her. I know he showed his interest in Ga Bin before but her sneaky ways must have gotten through to him. She takes his watch off for him and cleans it with her apron. And rest assured, he is now opening up to this girl.
  2. These squids are grossly gigantic. I love seafood but how they kill these creatures is absolutely brutal to watch that. And for once, I was not focused on the couples.
  3. Chan Woo can’t stop staring at Ga Bin. Dude, are you cooking or not?
  4. All those final dishes made me so hungry! Why does no restaurant deliver seafood paella?!
  5. How does the couple who made fried rice with three ingredients win this challenge?

After the winner is announced, all the couples eat each other’s dishes. Except Chan Woo, who revealed he cannot eat seafood … until he eats it? He felt left out because everyone was eating Ga Bin’s dish and complimenting it. So this guy – this guy eats it! Everyone is floored.

Is he going to have an allergic reaction? Is he going to choke and die? These are literally the thoughts of everyone at that table.

And just when we think something bad is going to happen, he gets up to most likely spit it out. And then comes back and compliments the dish. Yes, you saw that right. He spits out the dish he probably chewed four bites, and just to make Ga Bin happy, he says how good the dish is.

To conclude, Ga Bin shows no affection towards Chan Woo. Yes, she was previously interested in him and she would probably be going after him in real life but hello, they are on a money versus love reality TV show. Of course she’s going to have suspicions! I think in some parts, she is over-analyzing each person (which may not be a bad thing at times) but it leads her to be closed off. And Chan Woo is left knocking on a potential door in which Ga Bin won’t open. I’m still rooting for them, as well as the Jung Jin-Sae Ra couple and hopefully things go in a good direction next week!

Here is next week’s episode:

X1 Flash Part 1: Sweat and tears make a debut?

The saga continues for the eleven members who made the final line-up of Produce X 101. A two-part reality series called X1 Flash (to promote their upcoming release of the title song, ‘Flash’) aired this week. It highlights some of the events leading up to their debut showcase on August 27 in Gocheok Sky Dome, the same place Wanna One debuted two years ago.

Here are some of my 11 highlights (ha, get it) from this first episode!

1. Why do you have to take the members to a dark, scary deserted building with no walls for their interviews? Not only does this creepy place have zero security whatsoever but the members get interviewed through an old TV screen. Creepy much?

2. The intro is very solemn. To refresh your memory, immediately after the final episode of Produce X 101, news outlets reported that the voting system was rigged. There were actually concerns and lots of doubt that this group would get to debut because of what the Mnet producers might have caused. It is incredibly sad to watch the members say in their interviews how they didn’t think that they would be able to debut.

3. The choreography for the title track is no joke. Not only did every single member question whether they could even master the dance moves when they initially saw it, but everyone is getting hurt left and right. If that’s not difficult enough, they are also throwing in some major acrobatics for their photo shoots! And yes, that’s Han Gyul’s same foot that just did that major turn above!

4. But the pain brings all the members are closer than ever. Han Seun Woo is the leader and although he was initially closed off, he revealed that over the past couple of months, each one of them was able to open up to one another (and I guess it helps that they all live in the same apartment).

5. Two words for Seung Yeon: glass skin. Even with the close-up, I couldn’t find one pore on this guy. WHAT IS YOUR SKIN ROUTINE?!

6. Seung Woo made his grand v-neck appearance in today’s episode. If you have no idea why I’m making this reference, click here. You’re welcome.

7. Eun Sang reveals that instead of having this greed to be the top, he feels like he is lacking in many ways. This is concerning especially to the X1 fans as he expressed similar concerns in his journey through Produce X 101. Eventually, we were able to see how he overcame some of those fears towards the end of the competition. We’re all hoping that his insecurities and worries don’t hinder his performances because we all know that you are already doing great!

8. Although the intro started out pretty solemn, the episode ends with fireworks with the clips from the members’ interview of how they are going to be hopeful about their debut showcase. There were a lot of downs and pitfalls that these guys had to go through in just a span of a month or two but the episode ending like this instills hopes in us fans that things from now will look up!

9. The highlight medley for their mini album. Speaking of which, this album (not even released yet) has already made Billboard charts by going from No 6. to No. 2 on the Social 50 tally (updated 8/25/19).

10. I know, I know. We’re not supposed to have our favorites. But I can’t help when Seung Yeon comes in with his jokes. This guy is definitely the comic relief of the group and at the end of the episode, there was an epilogue of how he thought his room was the best.

11. And in the preview for next week’s episode, it looks like we’ll see what he’s talking about!
